On 30 July 2025, a crowdfunding post on a Chinese donation platform described a severely injured pet Ragdoll cat abandoned beside a dumpster in a Chengdu residential compound. The cat was discovered in a cardboard box, covered in injuries, and immediately taken to a veterinary hospital for emergency treatment.[1]

Incident

Medical examination revealed the cat had suffered dozens of slash wounds, rib fractures, and internal organ damage, including liver and lung injuries. A citizen who discovered the animal organized the fundraising and transport for surgery, raising around ¥5,635 to cover initial treatment costs, with total expenses expected to exceed ¥6,000.[2]

Police, aided by surveillance footage, later identified the perpetrator as the cat’s owner. He claimed the cat had scratched him while he was caging kittens, and he then attacked it with a kitchen knife.[3]

Aftermath

Local authorities issued a formal criticism to the owner and required him to sign a written pledge promising not to harm animals again. The cat is reported to have survived surgery and is under continued observation.[4]
