At 16:12 on August 1, 2025, Xiaohongshu user LY😘闹闹不闹～w (ID:260985256) uploaded a video showing a man walking through a neighborhood carrying a crossbow. He crouched beside a car, aimed the weapon at a cat hiding underneath, then moved behind the vehicle and shot the cat. The wounded cat fled briefly but died shortly after. The man then used a bucket to remove the corpse from the scene.

Public response and allegations

Following the release of the video, a number of posts on Chinese social media platforms alleged that the perpetrator was an emergency room doctor employed by Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital (苏北人民医院), and resided near where the cat was killed. These posts, sharing highly consistent wording, were repeatedly copied and reposted across multiple online platforms. The text claimed that local residents had long noticed the presence of dead animals in the neighborhood and that surveillance footage eventually captured a man in a white short-sleeved shirt shooting a cat with a crossbow. Neighbors reportedly identified the man as the aforementioned doctor. One Xiaohongshu user claimed the cat was beloved by the residents.
