At 01:04 a.m. on August 3, 2025, Weibo user 旭日桐花章 commented under the trending hashtag "#A domesticated Ragdoll cat was severely injured and abandoned by its owner#", writing: “When a ‘mean cat’ scratches you, it just means it needs a little extra love.”[3] (Note: The phrase “a little extra love” here is a commonly used jargon by cat abusers, as it distorts the idea of affection into justification for torture.) The trending hashtag refers to a case where a pet Ragdoll cat was found badly wounded and left in a cardboard box near a trash area. A citizen took the cat for treatment, and donations were raised online. Police later confirmed the cat’s owner had stabbed it after being scratched. He was issued a warning and made to sign a pledge.[4]
