On August 1, 2025, multiple users on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu reported being harassed by an individual who posed as an adopter of kittens and then sent them graphic images of cat abuse via private messages.
Incident

User 奶球宝贝 (ID:q3854923411) posted a warning on the platform stating that after a short conversation, user 叫什么好呢?(ID:42273517903) suddenly sent her cruel images and videos of cat abuse. She called on others to report the account and protect animals from such cruelty.[1]

Another user, 钮钴禄大旭旭 (ID:Ss11181116), reported a similar experience in a separate post. She stated that the individual, after being refused an adoption due to geographical inconvenience (the adopter was in 滨海新区), began to harass her with disturbing images of abused cats. She expressed frustration over the platform's lack of support and noted that she intended to report the incident to the police.[2]

A third user, 刘牛逼女士 (ID:180838019), commented under one of the posts, saying: "This person just sent me a bunch of disgusting photos too, I was sick all afternoon."
All three users were women located in Tianjin, and all had recently been active in seeking adopters for kittens.
Public Reaction
The community reacted with outrage. Some users advised the victims to file police reports, pointing out that disseminating such images could constitute a criminal offense in China. One commenter claimed to have attempted to trace the perpetrator using the shared WeChat information, noting that some of the images appeared to be older content sourced from foreign websites, including ones showing recognizable Western products such as a Vitamix blender rarely found in China, implying that the sender may not have created the content themselves.
Another user wrote that such behavior is "absolutely reportable" and that the authorities had previously confirmed that distributing violent animal abuse imagery is actionable under Chinese law.
