On August 25, 2024, in Yuanhui District, Luohe City, Henan Province, a man killed a Teddy dog after first hitting it with his vehicle and then being asked by the owners for compensation.[1]
The incident
At approximately 7:00 PM on August 25, a man driving an unlicensed, low-speed electric vehicle, known in Chinese as a "laotoule" (老头乐), struck a small Teddy dog at high speed.[1] The dog's owners, an elderly couple, had purchased the dog for 1500 RMB just two months prior.[1] The owners stopped the driver and requested 200 RMB to cover medical treatment for the injured dog.[1]
According to an eyewitness, the driver disembarked from his vehicle without saying a word and lit a cigarette.[1] He then picked up the injured dog from the ground and slammed it down forcefully twice, killing it.[1]
Aftermath
The dog's owners immediately called the police after the incident.[1] Through police mediation, the driver agreed to pay 1000 RMB in compensation.[1] During the process, the perpetrator's son arrived at the scene and reportedly attempted to take the compensation money back and acted aggressively towards the owners.[1] Ultimately, the perpetrator and his son took the dog's body with them, with witnesses stating they took it home to be eaten.[1]
