Disputed authenticity

Xiaohongshu user 赔钱货's post questioning the authenticity of Li's case.

According to a post on Xiaohongshu by user 赔钱货 (ID:95395307909), the graphic image depicting a cat being sexually assaulted to death had already circulated online in early 2025. The user suggested that Li Hao Zheng’s alleged sexual abuse of the cat was merely a bluff.

The message stated that the bureau had received multiple reports regarding claims that a student named Li X Zheng from Yinchuan Senior High School was circulating obscene photos. Upon verification, the school confirmed no such student existed. According to the message, some discontent over summer classes had led individuals to spread cat abuse photos on overseas platforms such as Telegram, falsely using the name “Li X Zheng” in QQ groups. The school had reported the matter to police, and an investigation into the source of the postings was underway.

After reviewing various online sources, it remains unclear how the QQ user 水月 was initially connected to Li Hao Zheng. However, he did abuse a stray tabby cat, which was different from the dead cat shown in the widely circulated graphic image.

In the comment section of a Xiaohongshu post by user 一条手作, another user, 搓指甲的妹妹, claimed that the abused stray cat had its tail sawed off by Li Hao Zheng and had since received medical treatment. When 一条手作 asked whether she had any evidence of the abuse, 搓指甲的妹妹 shared a screenshot of Weixin chat messages, in which Li appears to have posted a video of his abuse.

In the comment section of a Xiaohongshu post by user 一条手作, another user, W女士, claimed that the abused stray cat was sent to a local animal quarantine station by a school teacher.

Since August 18, 2025, Xiaohongshu user 小红薯68A415A8 has made several posts sharing the conditions of the abused stray cat.

Based on the media uploaded to this account, the cat’s tail appears intact and its condition seems stable.

School's public statement

Yinchuan Senior High School denied that Li had sexually abused a cat.

On August 18, 2025, Yinchuan Senior High School published a statement of circumstances on its official Weixin account.:

Recently, there have been online reports concerning inappropriate treatment of an animal (cat) by a student of our school. The school attaches great importance to this matter and promptly launched an investigation. It was confirmed that on the afternoon of August 16, the student engaged in actions such as dragging and squeezing a stray cat near their home, and recorded a video which was then posted on social media platforms. On the afternoon of August 18, the school, together with community police officers, staff, and property management personnel, conducted an on-site inspection and confirmed the stray cat’s normal activity. The cat was subsequently taken care of by an animal shelter organization. The rumors circulating online alleging the student committed severe abuse or killing of the cat are false and constitute malicious fabrication. The student and their parents have reported the incident to the public security authorities. The school has issued a serious reprimand to the student. Furthermore, the school is taking this as a learning opportunity to strengthen student behavior supervision and moral education, resolutely preventing such incidents from occurring again.
