The Abandoned shop cat rescue incident refers to the rescue of a cat that was trapped for several months inside a locked, empty storefront, an ordeal that led to the deaths of five other cats.[1] The case was publicized on August 28, 2025, by the Weibo account 两米猫哥寻宠侦探和300只流浪猫 (Two-Meter Cat Brother Pet Detective and 300 Stray Cats), which posted a video of the successful rescue.[1]
Background
According to the report, six cats were trapped inside an empty, locked shop for several months.[1] The shop's owner allegedly refused to open the door to let the animals out.[1] During this time, concerned local residents sustained the cats by pushing food to them through the crack under the door.[1] Due to the hot weather and confinement, five of the six cats eventually died inside the shop.[1]
The rescue

After receiving a request for help, the pet detective group "Two-Meter Cat Brother" arrived at the scene to rescue the lone surviving white cat.[1] The rescue was conducted with local residents as witnesses.[1] Using a ladder and a trap cage, the group was able to successfully retrieve the cat without causing any damage to the shop property.[1] The owner, Li Qi (李奇), was identified by tracing a phone number 15738961666 that was visible on a "For Rent" sign on the outside of the shop in the rescue video.[1]
